Herman Brood 05:23
Well me and Joe, we were two young souls in the city of canals Moving pieces back and forward on a black and white board In this bar at the edge of town When in through the doors burst three old souls And the one in the middle was the king of the Netherlands looking like a weathered man There was a hush in the room Suddenly there’s, suddenly there’s Whispering trees yeah, and rustling leaves This is Herman! This is Herman! So there’s whispering trees, whispering trees Filling this scene like rustling leaves And this age old star in this Amsterdam bar “We didn’t think he’d make it this far! For the things he has done, things he has done, Scarce leave anyone living that long, But it’s rock and roll son, rock and roll son…” “What I thought were my wings, lead me to impossible things Got a hold I can’t shake, bound by a freedom that’s fake What I thought were my wings, lead me to impossible things Yet still my soul aches. Tell me was it all a mistake?” So the king sits down while we play chess Starts throwing down portraits of me and my friend Sketches of faces on Heineken costas With a reckless abandon that’s freer than most of us And he asks for a game, and he talks while we play While the whispering trees, whispering trees, We talk life, God, drugs, hope, everything “This is Herman! This is Herman!” Raving and smiling with dark brooding eyes To be Herman? To be Herman? All the while filled with a curious light Three times he fell, three times the king fell We didn’t know it would be just the once more Be just the once more… “What I thought were my wings, lead me to impossible things Got a hold I can’t shake, bound by a freedom that’s fake What I thought were my wings, lead me to impossible things Yet still my soul aches. Tell me was it all a mistake?” Falling star… “I just wanted to fly, I just wanted to feel alive!” Falling star… “what I thought were my wings, lead me to impossible things” Falling star… “I just wanted to fly, I just wanted to feel alive!” Falling star… “what I thought were my wings, lead me to impossible things…”
